Joanna Carter pets one of her favorite does

After years of raising cattle on brushy Missouri pastures, we bought our first goats in 2003, hoping to clean up our Sericia Lespedeza, Multiflora Rose, Blackberry vines, and Oak sprouts.
Some of our neighbors wondered what was wrong with us as they began to see our pastures fill up with goats. When we added Ed (our llama) to guard the goats, people stopped and stared with amazement. “What have you got in your pasture?” they asked.
But it didn’t take too long for people to begin commenting on the difference they saw in the pastures and how well the goats were doing on all that brush they were cleaning up. The Boer Goats have made a nice addition to our Registered Angus cattle operation. Like our cattle, our goats are bred to take care of themselves on forage most of the year, and fit well into our management intensive grazing system.
We presently run 20-25 does. We breed them to be correct with sound feet and legs, length, depth, and a wide stance with plenty of meat. We insist that our does kid easily and have adequate milk.
Come by and take a look, we think you’ll like what you see!
